The tutorial explored the arrangement and hierarchy of hard landscape materials throughout the waterfront market space. Particular attention was given to the relationship between pedestrian movement, market activity, drainage systems, and the surrounding planting and pond areas.

The plan investigated how different materials could help define circulation routes, gathering spaces, and seating areas while also supporting the wider environmental and water management strategy.

major learning outcome from this session was understanding how materiality can influence movement, atmosphere, and spatial organisation within a public landscape.

The tutorial explored:

  • Material transitions between pathways and gathering areas

  • Relationship between paving layouts and canopy structures

  • Integration of seating along the waterfront edge

  • Surface treatments surrounding the pond and planting zones
